Solar Panel Cleaning in The Colony

Dirty panels make less power. We wash them by hand with purified water and soft brushes, check them for damage while we're up there, and leave your yard, gutters and driveway the way we found them. You get clear glass and no mess to deal with.

What a panel wash does for your system

Solar panels work best when sunlight hits clear glass. A thin film of dust, pollen or bird droppings blocks some of that light. Rain helps a little, but it mostly moves the dirt around and leaves a muddy line along the bottom edge of each panel.

North Texas wind carries a lot of dust, and spring pollen settles on everything. Panels on a low-pitch roof hold onto that grime longer. A wash makes sense when your production drops on sunny days, when you can see a haze from the yard, or when birds have been busy up there.

We don't use pressure washers, harsh soap or hard tap water. Those can scratch the coating, stress the seals or leave spots that block light. Purified water rinses off and dries without residue.

What's included in a panel wash

Hand wash with purified water

We use soft brushes and deionized water on every panel. No scrubbing pads, no chemicals. The water dries clear, so you don't trade dirt for water spots.

Spot treatment for bird droppings

Baked-on droppings get a soak first, then a gentle brush. We don't scrape the glass.

A look at the hardware

While we're on the roof we check for cracked glass, loose wiring, damaged clips and nests under the array. If we find something, we show you photos and explain it. Any fix is a separate solar repair job, and only if you want it.

Protection for your home

Ladders go on pads with standoffs so they don't dent gutters or scuff siding. We keep hoses off flower beds and lay drop cloths where we stage gear.

Before and after photos

You get photos of the panels before and after, so you can see the work without climbing up yourself.

A tidy yard when we leave

We pick up anything that blew off the roof, coil every hose and walk the yard before we go. The only thing that should look different is the glass.

Signs your panels need a wash

  • Lower output on clear days

Check your monitoring app. If a sunny day makes noticeably less power than the same kind of day last year, dirt is a likely cause.

  • Visible haze or film

If the panels look dull or gray from the street, they're carrying enough dust to cost you power.

  • Bird droppings

Even a few spots can shade part of a panel. That can drag down the whole string, not just the one cell.

  • A dirt line at the bottom edge

Rain washes grime down to the frame, where it dries in a band. That band shades the bottom row of cells.

  • After spring pollen or nearby construction

Heavy pollen and building dust coat panels fast. One wash after the worst of it usually brings production back.

How a wash day goes

  1. 1

    Talk it through by phone

Tell us how many panels you have, how tall your home is and what you're seeing. We'll set a time and give you a quote.

  2. 2

    Set up and protect

We park so we don't block your driveway, set ladders on pads and cover any spots where gear touches the ground. We schedule early morning or evening so cool water doesn't hit hot glass.

  3. 3

    Wash and inspect

We wash each panel by hand from the edges, never walking on the glass. We take photos and note anything that looks off.

  4. 4

    Pack up and walk through

We pack up, sweep and check the yard. Then we show you the photos and tell you what we saw on the roof.

What sets the price of a panel wash

Every home is a little different, so we price each job on what it takes. You'll know the number before we start. If we find something that needs repair, we tell you, and nothing gets added without your okay.

Number of panels
More panels means more time on the roof and more water. This is the biggest factor.
Height and roof slope
Panels up on a second story, or on a roof with a sharp angle, call for longer ladders and more safety gear. That adds setup time.
How dirty the glass is
Light dust rinses off fast. Thick grime or baked-on droppings need soaking and a second pass.
Access around your home
Tight side yards, fences or heavy landscaping can change where we set ladders and how long setup takes.

Panel washing questions

Something not covered here? (972) 640-8783

How often should I have my panels cleaned?

For most homes around here, once or twice a year is plenty. A wash after spring pollen is a good habit. If you live near new construction or have a lot of birds, you may want it more often. Your monitoring app is the best guide.

Can I just hose them off myself?

You can, but tap water often leaves mineral spots, and climbing on a roof is risky. Never use a pressure washer or walk on the panels. If you do it yourself, stay on the ground and use a soft brush on an extension pole.

Will washing hurt my panel warranty?

Gentle washing with soft brushes and plain purified water is the method most panel makers point to. Harsh chemicals and pressure washing are what cause trouble. If you're unsure, check your panel manual and we can look at it with you.

Is the runoff safe for my plants and lawn?

Yes. We use purified water with no soap or chemicals, so what drips off the roof is just water and the dirt it carried. We still keep hoses and gear off your beds.

Who does the work?

Our own crew does it. We hold over 40 solar certificates and licenses, so the people on your roof know how panels are built and what to look for, not just how to wash glass.

Do you work outside The Colony?

Yes. We wash panels in nearby towns like Lewisville, Frisco, Little Elm and Carrollton too. Ask when you call and we'll let you know.
