Battery Storage in The Colony
We add home batteries to new and existing solar systems so your home keeps the lights, fridge and Wi-Fi running when the grid goes down. We mount the battery on a garage or outside wall, run tidy conduit, and sweep up before we leave each day.
What a Home Battery Does for You
A battery stores the solar power your panels make during the day. You can use it after sunset, or lean on it when the power goes out. Without one, most grid-tied solar systems shut off during an outage, even on a sunny afternoon.
A battery is the right call if outages worry you, if someone at home relies on powered medical gear, or if you want to use more of your own solar instead of sending it back to the grid. It is not always the right call, and we will tell you if your usage or your system makes it a poor fit.
Battery work involves high-voltage DC wiring, your main electrical panel and the inverter. We hold over 40 solar certificates and licenses, and this is the kind of job where that training earns its keep.
What the Job Includes
- Load review and sizing
- We look at your power bills and ask what you want running during an outage. A battery sized for the fridge, lights and a few outlets is very different from one meant to carry the whole house.
- Mounting the battery
- Most batteries go on a garage wall or an exterior wall with proper clearance. We lay drop cloths on the floor, keep your cars and storage covered, and anchor the unit to the framing.
- Backup panel and wiring
- Many setups need a small backup panel that holds the circuits you chose to protect. We move those circuits over, label every breaker, and run conduit in straight, clamped lines along the wall.
- Pairing with your solar
- We connect the battery to your inverter, or add a compatible one, and set how it charges and discharges. If your solar is new, we can plan the battery alongside our solar panel installation work.
- Permit, inspection and app setup
- We pull the permit, meet the inspector, and handle the utility paperwork. Before we leave, we set up the monitoring app on your phone and show you how to read it.
Signs a Battery Makes Sense for Your Home
Outages leave you in the dark
Summer storms and the occasional hard freeze can knock power out for hours or longer. If that has happened to you, a battery keeps the basics running.
Your solar shuts off with the grid
Many homeowners are surprised to learn their panels stop working in a blackout. That is a safety rule for grid-tied systems, and a battery with the right setup works around it.
You send a lot of power back
If your panels make far more than you use at midday, a battery lets you store that power for evenings instead of exporting it.
Someone at home needs steady power
Oxygen machines, refrigerated medicine and home offices are common reasons people call us about backup.
You are adding solar soon
Planning a battery at the same time can save a second round of wiring and a second permit.
How a Battery Install Day Runs
- 1
Site visit and plan
We look at your electrical panel, the wall where the battery will go, and your existing solar if you have it. Then we put the numbers on paper, with the battery, wiring, permit and labor each shown on its own line.
- 2
Protecting the space
On install day we cover the garage floor and anything stored near the work area. We set up in one spot and keep tools off your driveway and lawn.
- 3
Install and wire
We mount the battery, set the backup panel, and wire everything to the inverter. Power to the house is off for part of the day, and we tell you the window ahead of time.
- 4
Cleanup, inspection and walkthrough
We sweep, vacuum wire scraps and haul off packaging before we leave each day. After the inspection passes and the utility signs off, we turn the system on and walk you through how it behaves in an outage.

What Moves the Price of Battery Storage
Battery jobs vary a lot from one home to the next. The biggest driver is how much you want backed up and for how long. We go through each line on the estimate with you, so there are no surprise add-ons later.
- Battery capacity
- More storage means a larger battery or more than one unit. Backing up a few circuits costs far less than backing up the whole house, including the AC.
- Your existing equipment
- Some inverters work with a battery as is. Others need an added or replaced inverter, which changes the cost.
- Electrical panel condition
- An older or full main panel may need upgrades before a battery can tie in. We check this on the first visit so you know up front.
- Mounting location and wire runs
- A battery right next to the main panel is a short, simple run. A longer distance, or a wall that needs extra protection from heat, adds labor and material.
Battery Storage Questions
Something not covered here? (972) 640-8783
Will a battery work with the panels on my roof now?
In most cases it will. The answer comes down to your inverter and how the system was wired in the first place. We look at your equipment on the first visit and explain in plain terms what the add-on would involve. If your current system has problems, our solar repair work can sort those out first.
How long will a battery run my house?
It depends on the battery size and what you run. The fridge, lights, Wi-Fi and a few outlets can go a long time, and the panels can recharge the battery during the day. Central AC drains a battery fast, so we talk through what matters most to you.
Does the battery have to go in my garage?
Not always. A garage wall is common because it stays out of the weather, but many batteries are rated for outdoor walls too. We pick a spot with proper clearance and good airflow, since heat shortens battery life.
Will my garage be a mess during the install?
No. We cover the floor, keep your belongings protected, and clean up at the end of every day. Conduit is clamped neatly to the wall, and we take all boxes and scraps with us.
Do you work outside The Colony?
Yes. We install batteries in nearby towns including Frisco, Little Elm, Lewisville and Carrollton. The Service Areas page lists the rest.
